Came across this prayer at the 2012 World Day of Prayer – themed ‘Let justice prevail’ for this year…

O Lord,

open my eyes that I may see the needs of others.

Open my ears that I may hear their cries.

Open my heart so that they they need not be without succour.

Let me not be afraid to defend the weak because of the anger of the strong;

not afraid to defend the poor because of the anger of the rich.

Show me where love and hope and faith are needed, and use me to bring them to those places.

And so open my eyes and my ears that I may this coming day be able to do some work of peace for Thee.

I was most shocked/delighted to hear this prayer where each word seemed to ring ever so loudly in my heart.

Amidst the business of readings, assignments, exam preparation… this prayer allows me to lift up my head from all the books once every so often and be reminded of the bigger picture: the very reasons why I wanted to do ‘law’ in the first place and what I should continue to strive towards today as a student, as a professional in the near future and really, throughout my whole life.
